FILLERS, VOLUMIZERS & INJECTABLES

FILLERS, VOLUMIZERS & INJECTABLES
FILLERS, VOLUMIZERS & INJECTABLES Some HALINA clients begin their skincare treatments using neuromodulators, such as Botox or Dysport, and dermal fillers starting in their early twenties. These anti-aging injections are some of the most popular cosmetic treatments on the market today. In fact, over ten million anti-wrinkle injections were done in 2017 alone for both men and women.
FILLERS, VOLUMIZERS, AND INJECTABLES
Contrary to popular belief, not all anti-wrinkle injections are necessarily injected into the muscle to “freeze” facial movements, some also work by filling in space or areas of volume loss, calling on regenerative collagen within the dermal layer.  At HALINA spa + medical rejuvenation, we offer both options during our anti-aging cosmetic treatment consultations so our clients have access to the benefits they each have to offer. ✤ What is the difference between dermal fillers and neuromodulator (muscle relaxing) injections?
In the 1970s, the first dermal fillers were introduced to the cosmetic industry.  The early products were collagen-based and derived from animal sources such as cows, birds, and pigs. Today’s most popular products are derived from laboratory-created hyaluronic acid.  These products are injected into the skin’s dermal layer to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds. When our skin begins to show signs of aging where laxity and volume-loss dull our best features, dermal fillers work within these areas to provide a more youthful appearance.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers replace structure and volume loss due to aging that leaves the skin looking deflated. These dermal fillers are best used in the cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds (“smile lines”), and chin areas. In addition to adding volume, dermal fillers are skillfully manipulated to sculpt the face and add definition to your boney structure’s natural lines.Depending on where you would like to add volume and definition, some dermal fillers may fare better than others. During your consultation, ask your skin care specialist or physician about your options.

The Restylane Family of fillers is a hyaluronic acid based filler.  These dermal fillers work on peri-oral lip lines, lips, nasolabial folds (“smile lines”), marionette lines (lines extending from the corners of the mouth to the chin), chin, cheeks, and the backs of the hands to add volume, smooth, and retexturize the skin. Restylane products can last six months or up to a year from the time of injection.

NEUROMODULATORS

Neuromodulators are minute doses of a purified toxin injected into specified muscles, interrupting nerve impulses that cause muscle contractions. Facial muscle contractions form lines in the overlying tissues. By injecting these muscles and decreasing or immobilizing movement in these areas prone to wrinkling, the skin relaxes, and the wrinkles are provided time to smooth the overlying tissues. These “muscle relaxants” offer the best results for people who struggle with lines and wrinkles around the forehead and eyes seen with facial movement. While these treatments are the original anti-aging injections, they maintain their viability and strength with proven results. ✤ How do I know which cosmetic injection is best for me? During your consultation, you and your provider will discuss your skin’s condition and the result expectations you have. Based on your age and skin condition, your provider will recommend the best dermal fillers or neuromodulator injections (Botox, Dysport) to help you reach your skincare goals. Not every option will work for you, but many can benefit from combining dermal fillers and these neuromodulator injections.

On average, Botox lasts three to four months following treatment and is best known for glabellar injections (between the eyebrows) to decrease frown lines using several injection points. However, Botox can also be used to improve crow’s feet and forehead lines, and soften pebbling of the chin, sharpen the jawline, improve down-turned corners of the mouth, and reduce neckbands.

After your Botox injection, results begin to take effect within three to five days and reach their peak effectiveness at fourteen days. Botox results can last an average of three to four full months (120 days).

Some patients prefer Dysport because it can provide a more natural, subtle result because of its feathering effect. Meaning, the edges of the area treated blend more seamlessly into the surrounding non-treated areas. The injection points using Dysport are the same as with Botox, and the treatment areas are the same.

After your Dysport injection, results begin to take effect within three to five days and reach their peak effectiveness at fourteen days. Dysport results can last an average of three to four full months (120 days).

Dysport | $4 per unit

Jeuveau temporarily decreases frown lines and is the latest wrinkle-reducing injectable toxin with FDA approval. Jeuveau improves the look of frown lines between the eyebrows and is also effective at softening wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movements. Jeuveau is similar to Botox and contains the active ingredient botulinum toxin Type A.

After your Jeuveau treatment, results can begin to take effect within three to five days but reach peak effectiveness at fourteen days. Jeuveau results last an average of three to four months, but 38% of patients had visible results at five months after treatment.

VOLUMIZERS

Volumizers work by stimulating your body’s collagen production through the injection of tiny particles into the tissues. These particles serve as an “irritant” that causes your tissues to envelop them in collagen resulting in improvements in volume loss and structure.

If you are looking to redefine or augment your chin, jawline, or cheeks, this injectable is for you. Radiesse is a calcium-based dermal volumizer with a high affinity for your body’s natural collagen stimulation and can last a year to fifteen months.  It can also be used in the backs of the hands and all over the body to plump and smooth the skin.

Radiesse | $750

Sculptra is a lactic acid-based product that stimulates your body’s own collagen lasting more than two years, which is a blessing for many patients who are not thrilled about bi-annual treatments. Sculptra excels at replacing volume and structure throughout the face and body. oth the skin.
