It doesn’t matter what time of year and where there’s humidity, it leads to an increase in oil production from your skin’s sebaceous glands. While sebum contains lipids and fats that protect your skin from drying environmental stressors, too much of it can make your skin’s surface extra oily.

If you struggle to control your oily skin, here are a few tips on how to adjust your skincare routine.

Cleanse Properly

The best skin care for oily skin regimen to help keep summer skin matte, yet moisturized, should include cleansing (possibly twice daily) with an oil-based face wash. Sounds strange, but remember the old adage, “like attracts like”. At night, a good quality oil cleanser will gently remove makeup and dislodge oil-based products from your pores, without overdrying, which can actually trigger more oil production. In the morning, use a gentle cleanser to wash away impurities without drying out the skin.

Use an exfoliant that is gentle enough for daily use to remove dead skin and other impurities that can make your skin look dull. You can easily add it to your cleanser to cleanse and exfoliate at the same time!

Moisturize and protect

Don’t skip a moisturizer thinking that it will add more oil. Remember that over-drying the skin will cause an overproduction of oil. And of course, ALWAYS wear an SPF sunblocker.

Blot Away

Blotting sheets are great to keep handy throughout the day. They can absorb any extra oil produced without disrupting makeup. Use them as needed, to remove oil, without adding extra pore-blocking makeup.
